KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A five-year project is coming to an end in Kalamazoo with the opportunity to give some residents a new beginning.
The City of Kalamazoo is expected to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for a more than $4.7 million new development of the Westgate Apartments on the city’s West side.
The complex is located at the former site of an auto repair shop at 615 West Kalamazoo Ave in the Stuart neighborhood. The ribbon cutting ceremony is expected to take place Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the site.
Westgate Apartments are described as a mixed-use apartment complex with 18 one and two bedroom units. The city claims the buildings are designed to be environmentally conscious through the inclusion of features such as a rooftop green space and electric car charging stations.
“We know how badly we need more housing units in Kalamazoo and every new unit helps,” noted Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson. “It’s wonderful to see this blighted property restored and put to such a valuable use.”
